Richard Wurm is an experienced German painter with international exposure. His creations range from small format pieces to large paintings, each with several layers of paint that he eventually removes with a high-pressure water heater. This technique of color stratification dislocates initial motifs, rendering each painting open to further interpretation. Despite this abstract experimentation, figurative elements can occasionally be identified in Wurm's compositions: hints of landscapes and natural elements sit alongside crumbling color layers. Ultimately, Wurm achieves an aesthetic that appears at once well-worn and undeniably modern.
